Positive Behaviour for Learning (PB4L)

The Positive Behaviour for Learning School-Wide framework, also known as PB4L School-Wide, is helping New Zealand schools build a culture where positive behaviour and learning is a way of life. PB4L School-Wide looks at behaviour and learning from a whole school as well as an individual child perspective.

It’s not about changing the students, it’s about changing the environment, systems, and practices we have in place to support them to make positive behaviour choices.

By following the PB4L approach it allows opportunities for learning and achievement to increase if:

  • The school environment is positive and supportive

  • Expectations are consistently clear

  • Students are consistently taught expected behaviours

  • Expected behaviours are consistently acknowledged

  • Inappropriate behaviours are consistently responded to in a fair and equitable manner.

PB4L is well implemented and visible in our school as our school values are an integral part of our school culture. At Henley School our expected behaviours are based around our Homai Kia Rima Values.

Respect - Whakaute

Caring - Manaakitanga

Fairness - Ngākau Tapatahi

Honesty - Pono

Responsibility - Tūtika

Our expectation is to see these values happening by everyone, everywhere and everyday. Any decision making and problem solving is supported by regular recorded data and implemented by our PB4L team leads.
