About Our School

Henley School provides high-quality education for students in Years 0-6 (ages 5 to approximately 11). We are proud of our dedicated and skilled teaching and support staff as well as our supportive School Board.

We follow the New Zealand Curriculum,. encouraging curiosity, creativity, and innovation, while building strong foundations in literacy and mathematics. Students also have opportunities to participate in a range of other activities which help them discover and develop their interests and talents e.g. a variety of sports, Kapa Haka (Māori cultural performance group), clubs (gardening, chess, art) and music lessons (external providers).

Curriculum and Learning Opportunities

At Henley School, teaching and learning programmes are guided by the New Zealand Curriculum.

Our highly skilled staff use culturally responsive practices to ensure every student feels a strong sense of identity, belonging, and inclusion. Learning takes place in modern, flexible spaces, with technology readily accessible to support student learning. Our programmes place students at the centre, encouraging full participation and increased independence.

Literacy and numeracy form the foundation of learning at Henley School. Our teachers are experienced in delivering high-quality programmes, including Structured Literacy and Mathematics, which are embedded throughout the school.

We use Hero, our student management platform, to share regular learning posts, information about up-coming events as well as a summary report for your child, twice a year.

We believe that learning is a partnership between students, teachers, and families. Throughout the year, we provide opportunities to connect and share progress, including parent–teacher conferences, learning updates via Hero, open days, assemblies, and informal conversations. Parents are always encouraged to contact their child’s teacher at any time to discuss learning and progress.

Pastoral Care

Henley School is committed to providing a safe and supportive environment for all students. We observe and are bound by the Education (Pastoral Care of Tertiary and International Learners) Code of Practice 2021. A copy of the Code is available at: www.nzqa.govt.nz

International students are encouraged to participate fully in all aspects of school life. We carefully monitor both academic progress and wellbeing to ensure each student feels happy, settled, and successful in their learning journey.
